报告简介:Targeting the huge unused bandwidth of current telecommunication networks, Bi/Er co-doped silica optical fibers (BEDFs) have been proposed and developed for ultra-broadband, high-gain optical amplifiers covering 1150-1700 nm range. In this presentation, Dr. Luo will introduce the fabrication of ultra-broadband luminescent BEDF and bismuth/erbium/ytterbium co-doped optical fiber (BEYDF) with modified chemical vapor deposition (MCVD) and in situ doping techniques. Several novel and sophisticated techniques have been developed for the fabrication and characterization of new active fiber. For the modification of performance of active fibers, post-treatments, like high temperature, radiation and laser, have been introduced to treat them. There have been some photonic applications such as fiber sensing, fiber gratings, fiber amplification and fiber lasers, etc., though there remain many fundamental scientific and technological issues and challenges.

针对当前电信网络的巨大未使用带宽,业界提出并开发了Bi/Er共掺杂石英光纤(BEDF),用于覆盖1150-1700 nm范围的超宽带/高增益光放大器。在本报告中,罗博士将介绍超宽带发光BEDF和铋/铒/镱共掺杂光纤(BEYDF)的制造,该光纤具有改进的化学气相沉积(MCVD)和原位掺杂技术,已经开发出的几种新颖和复杂的技术来制造和表征新的活性光纤。同时,为了改变活性光纤的性能,已经引入了诸如高温、辐射和激光的后处理来对其进行处理。尽管仍然存在许多基本的科学技术问题和挑战,但现实中仍存在一些光子应用,例如光纤传感、光纤光栅、光纤放大和光纤激光器等。

报告人简介:LUO YANHUA, PhD, Deputy director of Photonic & Optical Communications, University of New South Wales (UNSW), Australia. Dr Luo received his B.E and PhD degrees from University of Science and Technology of China (UTSC) in 2004 and 2009, respectively. His research interest is functional photonics materials, fibers and devices, including specialty optical fiber, optical fiber communication and sensing research work, etc. He presides over the experimental teaching on ‘Photonics Network’, ‘Optical Fiber and Optical Circuit’, etc. He has made many contributions in doped optical fibre, polymer optical fiber grating, Bi/Er co-doped optical fibre and its ultrabroad emission: i.e. developing 3 modes EDFA applied for the mode multiplexing transmission by NEC America Lab; introducing 3D printing technique for the fibre fabrication; develop D shaped fibre gratings applied for SHM of the world largest wind turbine by Vestas; proposing and developing bismuth erbium codoped fibre with ultrabroad band emission; etc. He has participated/hosted 19 projects, including: 2 ARC, 4 NSFC, 1 AFOSR, 1 ECR/FRG, 9 Open Funds, etc, with a total funding of ~1.5 million AUD. So far, he has held 2 China patents and co-authored >200 refereed journal / conference papers and 9 book chapters on these subjects. His papers have been cited >1600 times by ISI Web of Science, with an H-index 21.

LUO YANHUA,博士,研究员,澳大利亚新南威尔士大学(UNSW)光子通信实验中心实验室主管,于2004年和2009年在中国科学技术大学获得学士和博士学位,博士期间曾两次受国家资助,到UNSW光子通信实验中心开展光敏聚合物光纤的研究。主要从事光子学材料及其应用的研究,特别是特种光纤、光纤通信和传感方面的研究工作,并主持《光子学网络》、《光纤及光路》等教学实验。在掺杂光纤、聚合物光纤光栅、铋铒光纤及超宽带光发射等方面取得了一系列国际领先的研究成果,如在国际上首次报道3D打印的聚合物光纤预制棒及光纤;研制的三个模掺铒放大光纤创新性应用于美国NEC公司的模分复用传输系统;将D-型光纤光栅成功应用于世界最大的风力发电Vestas公司等。先后参与/主持澳大利亚国家研究基金(2项),国家自然科学基金项目(4项)、亚洲航空航天研发项目(1项)、国家/省级重点实验室开放课题项目(9项)、UNSW校级青年基金(1项)等19个项目的研究,项目经费高达150万澳币。迄今已在国内外著名期刊及会议发表论文〉200篇,授权专利2项,受邀撰写学术专著6章节,h因子为21,总共被引用1600多次。
